August Instructor Newsletter

August is National Wellness Month!  I missed sending a newsletter in July. I would love my excuse to be that I was hiking or sitting at the beach, but instead I taught a lot of classes!  And I’m looking for help with classes… more on that in this month’s newsletter.

September Instructor Update

On Wednesday September 21st at 7 pm EDT we’ll be on Zoom to discuss the AHA logos and how they can be used.  The AHA has come out with Aligned Instructor, Aligned Training Site, and Authorized Training Center logos.  These can be used on websites, flyers, and marketing materials.  However, there are rules on how these can be used.  We’ll go over all of this and how you can receive these logos over Zoom.

I need your feedback on how you submit rosters

Currently we are using CPR Enroll for managing rosters and purchasing eCards.  I also use this software for course registrations and taking online payments.  CPR Enroll has announced that they are changing their pricing model which would add a $4.95 fee convenience fee paid by the student on all student registrations.  Honestly, I don’t want to charge students more to take a class. So, I am researching different options.

For now, how you submit rosters and purchase eCards is not changing.  How students registering for classes at the Training Center will change as of 8/31.  Whichever software platform I switch to will eventually change how you submit your rosters and eCard payments.

I will be sending out a survey monkey survey in the next few days asking you what your preferences are. This will help me to decide what software platform we may switch to.  I am looking at programs that will provide all the tools and resources we all need to offer classes and submit paperwork easily.

We’ve added the Safe Sitter program

I have set up a Site Agreement with Safe Sitter, www.safesitter.org.  Instructors wanting to teach these programs will need to fill out an application and attend an online training.  Safe Sitter offers Safe @ Home for kids grades 4-6 staying home alone for the first time, and Safe Sitter Essentials for grades 6-8 who will be Babysitting.  To teach Safe Sitter Essentials (including Essential + CPR) you do need to complete their online training ($199).  If you are local, you can sign out the training materials to use in a Safe Sitter Class. If you are not local, you would need to purchase your own training materials.  If you are interested in offering this program, please contact Gail.

AHA webinars & info

I will be sending out a separate email with upcoming webinar links and the ECC Beat.

We now have an equipment lending program!

Over the past few months, we have received some donated manikins and I’ve purchased some used ones.  I am setting up a lending program. If you do not have your own manikins to teach a class or need a few extra things – we now have them to lend out.  Some equipment does come with a fee – like the cost of manikin replacement lungs so that you don’t have to buy them.  We have Laerdal QCPR manikins, Laerdal Baby Annes, Prestan Adult and Infant manikins, and First Aid training kits to lend.

We’re hiring!

I’ve posted about this before, but honestly – I need help and I’m hiring!

Specifically – looking for Heartsaver and BLS instructors who would like to teach at the Training Center in Hampton.  This could be 1 class a month, 1 class every 2-3 months, it could be 4-5 classes a month.  I am looking to cover a few evenings, a few weekdays, and possibly a Saturday every month.  This is per diem and is compensated as a part-time employee.  These classes are at the Training Center and would use Training Center equipment, so you do not need to provide your own.  In addition, sometimes I get requests to teach a large group of people.  If you would be interested in teaching at the Training Center or helping out with a large class, please let me know!  There is no ongoing commitment and I honestly need to be offering more classes to keep up with the demand but need help to provide all the classes that are requested.

Coming up…

September is National Preparedness Month.  It’s a great time to check in with the businesses in your community to make sure their staff is trained.  While there – take a peek at their AED if they have one. When do their battery and pads expire?  We have a sub distributor program set up with AED Superstore to aid our local business folks to replace their pads and batteries at a discount.  School starts next week.  I have been getting A LOT of calls from school districts and athletic coaches who all need training.  Feel free to check in with your local school district to see if they need a class.

Have questions?  Let us know!

Thank you so much for all that you do!
