October Instructor Newsletter
I missed sending a newsletter in September, but it was National Preparedness Month. This month we have Fire Prevention week from the 9th- 15th and World Restart a Heart Day on the 16th. Some new things from the AHA to share this month!
September Instructor Update
If you missed the update, we reviewed the AHA seals and brand usage guidelines. There is information at https://cpr.heart.org/tools-and-resources/tc-seal-and-web-guidelines. There are 4 AHA seals – Authorized Training Center, Aligned Training Site, Aligned Instructor, and Aligned Training Center Coordinator. Instructors will use the Aligned Instructor Seal.
The seals must also contain a line of text detailing your alignment. I.e. the Instructor Seal must have the text Aligned with Coastal CPR and First Aid in Hampton, NH. The seals can be used in marketing materials for AHA training, your website, banners, temporary signage (car magnets), and in your email signature. The seals cannot be used on generic or non-AHA specific marketing materials. They cannot be used on business cards, letterhead, permanent signage, or merchandise.
Please contact Gail if you have any questions, need a seal, or cannot view the brand guidelines posted on the above link.
All new Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED blended learning courses.
The AHA has updated the Heartsaver First Aid CPR online course and split it into 2 courses; Heartsaver Basic and Heartsaver Total. In your Heartsaver Instructor Manual there is a topics list in the Resources section. Heartsaver Basic required topics are what is listed as required in the topics list in your Instructor Manual, all other content is still optional. Heartsaver Total has all First Aid topics as required, and Child CPR AED and Infant CPR are still listed as optional content. Both are still $19.50. If you have the former Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course links those will not be updated but can still be issued. Questions? Confused? I know I was initially. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I will be scheduling an Instructor Update to go over the changes with Heartsaver in the next month or so.
We’ve added the Safe Sitter program
I have set up a Site Agreement with Safe Sitter, www.safesitter.org. Instructors wanting to teach these programs will need to fill out an application and attend an online training. Safe Sitter offers Safe @ Home for kids grades 4-6 staying home alone for the first time, and Safe Sitter Essentials for grades 6-8 who will be Babysitting. To teach Safe Sitter Essentials (including Essential + CPR) you do need to complete their online training ($199). If you are local, you can sign out the training materials to use in a Safe Sitter Class. If you are not local, you would need to purchase your own training materials. If you are interested in offering this program, please contact Gail.
AHA webinars & info
I will be sending out a separate email with upcoming webinar links and the ECC Beat.
We now have an equipment lending program!
Over the past few months, we have received some donated manikins and I’ve purchased some used ones. I am setting up a lending program. If you do not have your own manikins to teach a class or need a few extra things – we now have them to lend out. Some equipment does come with a fee – like the cost of manikin replacement lungs so that you don’t have to buy them. We have Laerdal QCPR manikins, Laerdal Baby Annes, Prestan Adult and Infant manikins, and First Aid training kits to lend.
We’re hiring!
I’ve posted about this before, but honestly – I need help and I’m hiring!
Specifically – looking for Heartsaver and BLS instructors who would like to teach at the Training Center in Hampton. This could be 1 class a month, 1 class every 2-3 months, it could be 4-5 classes a month. I am looking to cover a few evenings, a few weekdays, and possibly a Saturday every month. This is per diem and is compensated as a part-time employee. These classes are at the Training Center and would use Training Center equipment, so you do not need to provide your own. In addition, sometimes I get requests to teach a large group of people. If you would be interested in teaching at the Training Center or helping out with a large class, please let me know! There is no ongoing commitment and I honestly need to be offering more classes to keep up with the demand but need help to provide all the classes that are requested.
Coming up…
September is National Preparedness Month. It’s a great time to check in with the businesses in your community to make sure their staff is trained. While there – take a peek at their AED if they have one. When do their battery and pads expire? We have a sub distributor program set up with AED Superstore to aid our local business folks to replace their pads and batteries at a discount. School starts next week. I have been getting A LOT of calls from school districts and athletic coaches who all need training. Feel free to check in with your local school district to see if they need a class.
Have questions? Let us know!
Thank you so much for all that you do!
