Important AHA Update

March 31, 2023

This week the AHA announced that they are phasing out the Instructor Network and transitioning Training Centers, Training Sites, and Instructors to a new web portal … Atlas.  This newsletter is about the data update steps we all need to take.

Step 1:  We ALL need to update our information on the AHA Instructor Network.

The AHA will begin migrating Training Sites to the new Atlas platform in May.  Before they do so, we are required to update our information in the current Instructor Network.

Detailed directions with screen shots can be found in this AHA online document:  https://cpr.heart.org/-/media/CPR2-Files/Private/Atlas-Info_Resources/Instructor-Job-Aid–Update-Profile-on-AHA-Instructor-Network-1.pdf

  • Log into the Instructor Network
  • Click on Edit My Profile
  • Select Personal Info
  • Update all of your contact information.  I know a few of you have changed your email address, phone number, or moved.  You MUST update this in the Instructor Network.

Next you need to confirm that your alignment is correct.  Several of you have transferred into our Training Center or have a secondary alignment.  You MUST confirm that this information is correct.

Under Edit My Profile:

  • Click on Alignment.
  • Confirm that this information is correct.  If you transferred into our Training Center and are still seeing your old TC under this please click on REMOVE to end that alignment.
  • If this makes no sense whatsoever…. email Gail

After you complete this please notify Gail by email at Gail@CoastalCPR.com.

This database update must be completed before May 1, 2023.

What does this change mean?

Atlas is a new web portal.  It is replacing the Instructor Network and the My Courses/Find a Course tool.

This is not an April Fool’s joke … serious changes are coming!

The Instructor Network website has been up/down and not very user friendly at times.  We’re hoping this new website will be easier to use for all.

If you are having difficulty updating your information please contact Gail or your Training Site Coordinator for assistance.  The AHA will begin migrating information to the new site in May. We must have all of our updates completed prior to May 1st.

We will be reaching out to instructors individually as needed to make sure these updates are made.

Other important news from the AHA

If you joined in on the TF webinar yesterday, they mentioned several important things.

All pandemic based course changes/guidance are now discontinued. The official AHA memo was due to come out this past week, but so far has not.  It should be out shortly though.

What does this mean?  This means we give breaths, we can have students share equipment, basically… back to normal for teaching BLS, CPR AED, and First Aid.

One of the presenters in the webinar misquoted the PAM.  There was text on a slide that was copied/pasted from the PAM but it was posted out of context without the preceding text.  The quote was that Training Centers had to ensure that instructors had at least 3 students in a class and that 3 was the minimum number.

If you read the PAM (currently still in the Instructor Network) is it is an example of what a Training Center could require.

What that means for you … you can teach a 1 person class.  For BLS this means that you, the instructor, is the 2nd person for 2-person skills. The High-Performing Teams activity is now optional so you do not need to run it if you do not want to or if you don’t have enough participants.

What is new at the Training Center

We have upgraded some new-to-us equipment to create kits for instructors to sign out if they need equipment for a class.

We are receiving requests for classes that we cannot fill.  If you are interested in teaching more please email Gail.  We will refer organizations to you.

We are still hiring!  Looking for 2-4 more instructors looking to teach part-time days, evenings, and weekends.  We are also looking to hire a part-time administrative assistant.

We have begun the process to add ACLS and PALS disciplines.  This is a multi-year process.  If you are a currently certified ACLS or PALS provider and would like to become an instructor please let Gail know.  We are tentatively planning the first ACLS instructor course for this summer.

Do you have questions?  We might have answers!

Please contact us at info@coastalcpr.com if you have any questions.
