Training Center Accountability Project

At the end of April we received an email from AHA Compliance.  This email was sent to most Training Center Coordinators nationwide, so it’s not an indication of anything we’re doing wrong.  However, they are taking a very strong stance on quite a number of complaints they have received.  Since Training Centers are ultimately responsible for the actions, inactions, or mistakes made by Instructors and Training Sites, we have been tasked with checking for compliance violations, taking action, and have a deadline of May 30th to do so.

There are 4 action items in this project, they are:

  1. We must review all listing in the ‘Find a Class’ tool.
    • Listings must meet PAM requirements, which includes full street address.
    • Class times posted the ‘Find a Class’ tool must match what is listed in the Instructor Manual for that class.
    • Class durations posted on websites must match published agenda times.  I.e. Not posting a 30 minute BLS Renewal class.
    • Any virtual ACLS, PALS, Instructor Essential classes are prohibited and must be canceled.
    • Inappropriate use of the AHA logo.
    • Any non-compliance of TC business policies.
  2. We must review all Instructor, Training Sites, and Training Center websites
    • Name and physical location of teaching location must be published.  This means a full street address.  I.e.  at the TC we cannot post classes as Hampton, NH.  Must be 861 Lafayette Rd #7, Hampton, NH.
    • Class times posted the ‘Find a Class’ tool must match what is posted in the Instructor/Training Site website and registration pages.
    • Class durations posted on websites and registration pages must match published agenda times.  I.e. Not posting a 30 minute BLS Renewal class.
    • Any virtual ACLS, PALS, Instructor Essential classes are prohibited and must be removed.
    • Inappropriate use of the AHA logo.
    • Any non-compliance of TC business policies.
  3. We must edit or cancel all non-compliant class postings in the Find a Class tool, registration pages, and websites within 5 days of discovery.
  4. We must review and update our processes for adding new or transferring instructors

This is just a summary of the very long email we received.  AHA Compliance receives multiple complaints daily and is actively investigating each complaint.  They advised they have deleted over 50,000 non-compliant class listings in the Find a Class tool, have revoked instructors and published a list of who is revoked, published a revoked Training Site list, have put over a dozen Training Centers on probation, and are visiting classes for unannounced monitoring, aka “Secret Shoppers”.

If you do not post on the ‘Find a Class’ tool and/or do not have a website, then most of this does not apply to you.  We have been emailing instructors that this does apply to, but also wanted to share this information with everyone in case you are looking at using the AHA Seals, put up a website, or are exploring offering open-enrollment classes.

We are setting a deadline of May 22nd for our aligned instructors to make updates to their websites and/or class postings.  Failure to comply may have larger implications for the Training Center as the AHA is putting instructors, Training Sites, and Training Centers on probation.  We do not want to jeopardize anyone’s ability to teach by not meeting the AHA Compliance check deadline.
