Hi Everyone,
Below is a memo from the AHA in regards to updates to the use of the Atlas Find a Class Tool.   The full memo is linked below (you’ll need to log in to Atlas to view).  Here is a summary of the changes with some notes added:
• Instructor Led and Skills Check Classes: Classes must be posted with a legitimate physical address. Locations such as city centers and parking lots are not acceptable. Training Centers, Training Sites, and Instructors may not use locations for classes that they do not have permission to use for AHA training (ex., a library or hotel that has not approved an AHA class to occur at their location).
• The Class Location field may include only the Location/Address information for the class. Additional information about the class is not permitted in this field, such as, discounts, phone numbers, websites, or advertisement of any type. For Virtual classes, please follow the above guidance accordingly.
Currently we have turned off the permissions for instructors to create locations to avoid location problems.  You can only post classes at locations you have obtained permission to use.
• BLS/Heartsaver Virtual Training: Training Centers, Training Sites, or Instructors offering virtual BLS and Heartsaver classes must state “Virtual BLS Training” or “Virtual Heartsaver Training” in the Class Location field.
Yes, this seems like a conflict to the rules above, but this is what they advise.
• Classes must be posted with start and end times that are consistent with class times outlined in the AHA Instructor Manuals.
• A Training Center, Training Site, or Instructor may not post multiple, overlapping classes with start and end times that conflict with standard course times or that list the same Instructor for multiple classes occurring at the same time.
o Please note that you may not refer to any AHA class as “100% online.
Atlas has you enter a class start time, it does not prompt you to enter an end time. It will post the class for the hours on the course agenda.  For the most part it will not let you select yourself to teach a class if it overlaps with something you have already entered.
• As a best practice, Training Centers, Training Sites, and Instructors should not post classes more than 6 months ahead of the class occurrence.
This is a good best practice to not post that far in advance.  If you enter classes that you need to cancel, you cannot delete them.  You can only cancel them.

If you have any questions on the Find a Class Tool please let me know!

Take care,

Dear AHA Training Network,

Over the past few months, we have received feedback from customers regarding the misuse of the Atlas “Find a Class” tool. As a result of your feedback, we have updated the guidance contained in the AHA Training Memo titled, “Acceptable Use of AHA’s Find a Course tool,” that we issued on November 17, 2022, that outlines rules for the acceptable use of the Find a Course tool, which was the previous name of the tool on the former AHA Instructor Network before the migration to Atlas in June 2023.  These updated rules now reflect acceptable use of the Atlas “Find a Class” tool to list classes offered to the public. The updated rules and best practices for using the “Find a Class” tool are effective immediately.

The AHA is proud to be able to provide the Atlas “Find a Class” tool to the US AHA Training Network at no charge to help Training Centers, Training Sites, and Instructors deliver the highest quality AHA training to healthcare professionals, lay rescuers, and the general public.

It is imperative that accurate information, reflecting AHA curricula and standards, is entered into the Atlas “Find a Class” tool, which populates information available to the public on the platform.

The AHA has created basic rules to avoid misuse of the tool. The Training Memo with these rules can also be found on the Training Updates page in Atlas (login required). Please note that failure to follow these business rules would be cause for a Training Center, Training Site or Instructor to be restricted from use of the tool, as well as the removal of non-compliant classes.

If you experience issues with the “Find a Class” tool, please contact the AHA at atlas.support@heart.org. If possible, please provide as much information about the issue as possible, such as time and date of the issue and a screenshot of what the tool is displaying. These additional details will help our technology department better identify and try to resolve the problem.

Sincerely,

The American Heart Association Team
