| New NIH Stroke Scale eLearning Course Coming Soon
The NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) is a critical component of acute stroke assessment. To support healthcare professionals in delivering timely, accurate stroke evaluations, the American Stroke Association is preparing to launch a new NIH Stroke Scale eLearning Course by early November.
The course reflects the 2024 revisions to the NIH Stroke Scale, including new visual stimuli used in the assessment of patients with suspected stroke. Whether you’re learning the NIHSS for the first time or refreshing your existing skills, this comprehensive online course provides guidance to help you confidently administer and score the assessment.
About the new course:
- Fully redesigned eLearning course featuring new video case studies with real and simulated patients
- Online eLearning format that allows healthcare professionals to revisit the course as needed to refresh their knowledge and reinforce continued mastery of the NIH Stroke Scale
- Certificate of completion valid for one year for participants who successfully complete the course
- Optional pediatric video case included
- Continuing education credits available

| Spanish BLS Online Exam Now Available
The Spanish BLS Online Exam launched to the Domestic Training Network on August 31, 2026, expanding access to Basic Life Support (BLS) testing for our Spanish speaking learners.
As a reminder, the Spanish BLS Online Exam is intended to be purchased and managed by Training Centers (TC Security ID required to purchase). If you are an Instructor interested in offering the Spanish BLS Online Exam, please contact your aligned Training Center Coordinator (TCC) directly. |

A Heart Attack Stopped His Marathon Training. CPR and an AED Saved His Life
After a heart attack and subsequent cardiac arrest abruptly ended his marathon training, 61-year-old Michael Bonnardi was revived by hospital staff using CPR and an AED. Doctors discovered three blocked arteries and implanted stents to restore blood flow. Despite living an active, healthy lifestyle with no known risk factors, Michael and his wife, Maureen, embraced even more heart-healthy habits during his recovery.
Following cardiac rehabilitation, Michael gradually returned to exercise and shifted his focus from marathon running to activities like walking, yoga and tai chi. His story serves as a reminder that heart disease can affect anyone and highlights the lifesaving impact of rapid treatment, CPR and defibrillation. |

| Atlas Find a Class Enhancements Now Available
The enhancements to the Atlas Find a Class search tool launched on September 2 and are now available. These updates are designed to help students more easily find and select the training option that best meets their needs by simplifying course selection, providing additional guidance on training formats, and introducing a new Find a Station map view for locating nearby Self-Guided training stations.
As part of these enhancements, Self-Guided station classes that were previously posted in the Find a Class search tool are being removed from Atlas. Any Self-Guided station classes scheduled for September 2, 2026, and later, will be systematically removed through mid-September.

To access the report, log in to ecards.heart.org (log-in required) and select Manage eCards, then navigate to Reports. From the available report options, choose Student Edit eCard Report and select the desired date range to view submitted update requests.
