August 2026 Instructor Newsletter

Where has the summer gone?

TC will be offline 9/1-9/3:

Gail will be offline 9/1-9/3.  eCard orders and rosters will be processed beginning on 9/4.

September is National Emergency Preparedness Month

This is a great month to reach out to your schools and community organizations to offer training!

Instructor Renewals

Last year we sent personal emails to all Instructors coming up for renewal.  As we’ve grown, it’s become difficult and time-consuming for us to continue to do so.  Your Instructor eCard recommended renewal date is entered on every roster that you submit to the Training Center.  Each Instructor is responsible to keeping track of when their Instructor eCard is due for renewal.

The checklist of what you need to do is listed in our Instructor Portal at https://instructors.coastaltrainingcenter.com/instructor-renewal/.  We recommend starting the renewal process 60-90 days before your Instructor eCard will lapse.

What’s involved:

  • Teaching at least 4 classes over the previous 2 years
  • Filling out 3 online forms
  • Taking an online exam
  • Scheduling course monitoring
  • Paying an renewal fee

That’s it.  We suggest starting early so that we can schedule your monitoring.  Monitoring can be done in-person or remotely.  It can be a class you set up, or you can take over a class at the TC if you are local.

One of the things we’ve realized with Atlas is that while your eCard is valid until the last day of the month when you are due to renew, Atlas won’t let us easily renew instructors on the last day or two of each month.  It seems to lock up, then it kicks the Instructor out. We then have to issue an Instructor eCard and realign the Instructor. Do-able, but a few extra steps

Going forward we would like to process all Instructor Renewals no later than the 25th of each month that they are due to make the process as quick and seamless as possible.

Stop the Bleed Training Saturday 9/26 2 pm

We will hold a training on how to teach Stop the Bleed on Saturday 9/26 at 2 pm at the Training Center in Hampton, NH.  The training will take approximately 90 minutes.

Instructors wishing to attend should register here: https://coastalcpr.com/classes/instructor-classes/.

There is no cost for this training.

Editing student eCards

Did you know that most students who have mistakes on their eCards call the AHA and not the Instructor who issued the eCard?  How do we know this? The number the AHA gives them to call is the Training Center’s, not the Instructor’s.  And also that most students who call us looking for their eCard didn’t receive it due to a typo on their email address?

We get calls from time to time from students looking for their eCards or with typos on their eCard.  We need to verify their information before making edits, and the fastest way for us to do so is by checking the roster.  Instructors who issue their own eCards are still required to submit their rosters to their TS or to the TC.

Sometimes we need to email or call the Instructor to search the information to edit an eCard. If we call or email you – please respond to us as quickly as you can.  You are potentially holding up a student from working if they don’t have their eCard and chasing you down to confirm information can be time consuming on our part.

Atlas Class Manager

The AHA has made updates to Atlas Class Manager and a few more are on the way.

When entering in classes, you now have several choices for some courses.  I.e. Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED has several options.

If you are teaching an Instructor Led classroom course you will select that course name.  If you are teaching a blended learning class you have the choice of selecting ‘online’ or ‘skills session’.  If you are providing the online course link (either pre-paid or a registration option) enter the class as ‘online’.  If you are NOT providing the course link, select ‘skills session’ when entering the class.

For Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online you must select if it is Basic or Total.

If you are providing Virtual or Remote classes (Heartsaver or BLS only, not ACLS/PALS/IE) you MUST select the virtual option in the drop down for course.  The AHA is reviewing complaints on virtual classes and will delete classes not entered correctly.

If you are running an RQI Station – you must include that information when posting in Atlas Class Manager.

If you have questions on how to post classes in Atlas Class Manager please email Gail at gail@coastalcpr.com.

What can we do to help you do what you do?

Gail is working on a project to streamline and set criteria on how we mentor and support our Instructors.  While we think we do a decent job, we’re sure there are areas we could be improving on.

How can we best support or mentor you?  You can let us know here:  https://form.jotform.com/262416538238057.  This is an anonymous form you can fill out.

Keep in mind there are some things we can’t help you with.  We can’t provide legal or specific business advice,  We can’t guarantee you students for every class that you offer.  We can make suggestions, provide resources, and support you to be a great Instructor.  Just let us know what we can do to support you or what you think we’re doing a good job on now.

Thank you!
