Your alignment with us

Most of you have 2 alignments with Coastal CPR & First Aid; one for BLS and one for Heartsaver.

However, if you are aligned under one of our Training Sites, you should see multiple alignments – TC alignments for BLS and Heartsaver, TS alignments for BLS and Heartsaver, and possibly TS alignments for ACLS and/or PALS.
(Note:  Heartsaver Instructors will just see their Heartsaver alignments)

A few months ago we discovered that one of the Atlas updates took away the need for a TC alignment for Instructors aligned under a Training Site.  This meant that while the eCards issued by the Instructor had the TC name on them, the Instructor was only primarily aligned under the Training Site.

Recently we discovered that has created a new list of problems revolving around eCards.  If a student calls the TC number on their eCard for a correction (spelling error, Heartsaver module missing, etc.), we are unable to make that correction quickly or easily as the Instructor does not appear under our Instructor list in eCards.  It also means we can re-issue or adjust eCard mistakes for the Instructor.

Over the next month we will be looking up each TS Instructor to check alignments and will be sending out alignment requests.  If you receive an alignment request from us please accept that request ASAP.

Currently we have over 30 alignment requests pending that we have sent out.  I will be deleting those and resending to TS Instructors in smaller batches.  I will also be notifying the TSC to follow up.  Instructors who do not accept the TC alignment request risk being unaligned completely.

Language updates

Do you need BLS or Heartsaver exams in other languages?  The AHA is slowly updating the list of updated exams.  Not all are available yet though.  Let us know what language you may need your exams in.

We’ve had request for BLS and Heartsaver materials in Spanish.  They are available digitally and today I noticed the Spanish Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED student workbook was available in ShopCPR.

Deadlines

Recently we’ve had some rosters turned in that were super late.  For classes months ago.  The AHA now has a limit on how far back we can date eCards.  All rosters from Instructors should submitted within 5 days of the class.  Rosters from Training Sites should be submitted monthly.

Stop the Bleed Instructor Training

If you have wanted to offer Stop the Bleed, we will be setting up a training on this for August or September, most likely on a weekend afternoon.  Please email Gail to sign up.  Training involves taking an online STB course (~ 1 hour), registering with the ACS STB and the STB Coalition programs, and an in-person or Zoom session (~ 90 min).  There is no cost for this training.  Instructor would be responsible for purchasing their own training equipment to teach this program.  Information and links will be posted in the Instructor Portal in August.

eCard errors and corrections

We’re seeing an increase in the number of calls and emails we receive from students who need the spelling of their name corrected on their eCard or their email corrected.

For Instructors and Training Sites entering eCards – please confirm with your students before they leave the class that you can read their information on the roster.  Also please double check that what you type into eCards is correct.

Ideally students should be contacting their Instructor for eCard corrections, but most seem to call the TC because our number is on their eCard.  However some corrections cannot be made by Instructors and will need to be sent to us at the TC to fix.  When sending us eCard corrections, please include the eCard certificate code, what the mistake was, and what the correction should be.

Also eCards must only be issued to the course participant’s unique email address.  The eCard cannot be sent to an employer or instructor’s email.  We do get an error message if the instructor email is used, we often don’t if an employer email is used.  I discovered this recently trying to locate a card for a student who took it through a TS Instructor and the eCard was sent to an employer – not the student.  It then becomes unsearchable by name or email and the student had to find the physical copy they had (with the typo on their name) and read us the certificate code for us to pull it up to correct it.  This was time-consuming and delayed the student receiving their corrected eCard.  Please only issue eCards to the actual course participant.  If the employer want a list of their employees cards you can send them a download of the eCards after you submit them.  If you’re not sure how to provide this please email Gail.
